Exotic $500K coin collection taken from the Marble Cliff residence of an elderly guy

The victim, identified as Harold Thompson, an 82-year-old retired history professor, had spent decades amassing his prized collection of coins, each piece a testament to a bygone era.

According to Thompson’s family, the collection was not just a hobby but a lifelong passion, with each coin meticulously researched and acquired over the years.

The theft came to light when Thompson’s caretaker arrived at his home on Monday morning to find the premises ransacked and the coin collection missing.

The stolen collection is reported to include rare coins from various periods of history, ranging from ancient Roman denarii to medieval European currency and colonial American coins.

Among the most valuable pieces are said to be a rare 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar and an 1804 Draped Bust Silver Dollar, both of which are highly sought after by collectors.
